IB And Its Programmes

The IB program was established to provide inclusive education to students. It mainly aims to create intercultural bonding and holistic education in the students. They focus on developing creative thinkers. There are about 175 IB schools in India following the IB board curriculum. Here is the list of programmes offered by IB

Primary Years Programme(PYP): This IB program is designed for students aged 3 to 5 years. The program provides a strong foundation for young children. It improves both emotional and intelligence quotient. 

Middle Age Programm (MAP): This program is for students aged 11 to 16. The program makes the students understand the professional world. 

Diploma Programme (DP): This programme offers extensive knowledge of core subjects

Career-related Programme( CP): This is a career-related programme making students ready to face the professional world. The program creates critical thinkers and confident individuals. 

Outlook Of IB Curriculum

IB programmes are based on the IB curriculum. The PYP curriculum is divided into written, taught and assessed curriculum. MYP curriculum involves six to eight subject groups and a long-term project. The DP curriculum includes six subject groups with core subjects. The curriculum mainly includes theory, project and activity.

Completing two IB DP programmes must take up the CP programme. The curriculum mainly focuses on language development, personal and professional skills development. 

The IB curriculum is different from the IGCSE curriculum. The IB board gives more importance to practical teaching and instils critical thinking. It provides global exposure to students as they interact with students of different cultures. The curriculum makes the students face the competitive professional world. It helps them to choose the right stream for higher studies. The board does not encourage mugging concepts as in CBSE and other boards. 

Pros and Cons of IB Board

Pros:

• IB students must complete a project during a programme. It helps to understand the concepts of subjects clearly. It encourages analysing and research in studies. 
• They learn more languages during their schooling.
• IB programs are structured to develop students’ emotional quotient besides their academic growth. 

Cons:

There are some disadvantages to the IB board. The syllabus is quite vast, and it is stressful for students. Only a few schools are under the IB board. Many of the universities do not accept the IB certification. It is expensive to study in an IB school. It is not accessible by all the students.
